5 Quality Protein Powders

Updated: Jan 13, 2021

Protein – the building blocks of life.

Your body uses protein to build and repair tissues, muscles, cartilage, bone, skin, and blood. Protein is required for enzyme and hormone production and to transport nutrients around the body.

Optimising protein intake is an important component of regulating your blood sugar balance which, in turn, can help with energy production, immune function, weight loss and can play a role in the prevention of chronic illness.

Protein powders can be a great addition to your diet, particularly at breakfast when we are more likely to make high carbohydrate choices. It can be added to smoothies, overnight soaked oats, porridge and pancakes or used to create high protein snack bars or energy balls.

It can be particularly beneficial for Vegans and Vegetarians who can find it more of a challenge to meet their daily protein requirement.

But with so many protein powders available now the choice can be overwhelming. Finding a good quality protein powder that is not full of added sugars, flavourings or synthetic nasties is key.

Below, I have listed 5 quality protein powders that are some of the cleanest on the market:

80% Protein.

Vegan, Raw, Certified Organic, Non GMO, Soy/Dairy/Gluten Free.

A proprietary blend of fermented pea, brown rice, quinoa, chia seed and amaranth.

Sunwarrior – one of the early innovators in healthy protein powders.

Available in 375g or 750g

80% Protein.

Vegan, Non GM, Gluten Free. Pulsin is all about simplicity. This single blend is a cost-effective protein powder.

250g or 1kg

88% Protein.

Vegan, Non GM, Gluten Free. A high protein punch and a great alternative to Soy protein which I do not recommend.

250g or 1kg

The Organic Protein Company ORGANIC WHEY PROTEIN

79% Protein.

Organic; Grass-fed; Hormone Free; Low temperature processing.

For those who insist on whey protein ensure it is hormone free and made from organic/grass fed dairy only. All ticked here!

400g

93% Protein.

Soy/Dairy/Gluten Free.

Sustainably Sourced from wild, line caught fish off the coast of France.

Collagen powder has a different amino acid profile and contains much higher levels of the anti-inflammatory amino acids (glycine, proline and hydroxyproline). For joint repair and gut healing, I like to use a collagen powder.

195g
